When everything starts to feel difficult
Sometimes, depression doesn’t look like sadness. It may feel like emptiness, exhaustion, or losing interest in the things you once enjoyed.
You may find yourself:
Feeling low or emotionally numb
A persistent heaviness, emptiness, or sense that nothing feels quite right.
Withdrawing from people
You may feel disconnected from loved ones or find it difficult to explain what you’re going through.
Struggling with everyday tasks
Even getting out of bed, working, or completing routine responsibilities can feel overwhelming.
Experiencing changes in sleep or appetite
Sleep difficulties, sleeping more than usual, changes in appetite, or persistent fatigue may accompany depression.
You don’t need to experience every symptom to deserve support. If these difficulties persist or affect your daily life, a professional assessment can help you understand what’s happening.
Safety note: If you are having thoughts of harming yourself or feel you can’t stay safe, please contact local emergency services or a crisis helpline right away. In India, you can call Tele-MANAS on 14416, free and available 24/7.

FAQ
Questions about depression
How do I know if it’s depression or just sadness?
Sadness usually eases with time and support. Depression tends to stay most of the day, nearly every day, for two weeks or more, and affects sleep, energy, appetite and interest in life. If that sounds familiar, it’s worth getting assessed.
Can depression cause physical symptoms?
Yes. Tiredness, aches, headaches, slowed movement, appetite changes and poor sleep are common. Some medical conditions, such as thyroid problems or anaemia, can look like depression, so a physical check-up may be advised.
Is it depression or burnout?
Burnout is linked mainly to work stress and often improves with rest and change. Depression affects most areas of life and doesn’t lift with a break. They can overlap, and an assessment helps tell them apart.
How does Ayurveda approach depression?
Ayurveda looks at your daily routine, diet, sleep and state of mind. At Manodhara, it is a supportive layer alongside psychological therapy, not a replacement for it, and only where it suits you.
Are online consultations suitable for depression?
Online consultations can be suitable for many people. Your clinician will assess your needs and whether online care is appropriate. More urgent or complex situations may require in-person or specialist support.
Feeling better starts with one conversation
You don’t need to have the right words or feel “bad enough” to reach out. Let’s talk about what you’re going through and what would help.
Manodhara consultations are not an emergency service. If you are in crisis or thinking of harming yourself, please contact local emergency services or a crisis helpline right away. In India, call Tele-MANAS on 14416 (free, 24/7).
